WAWA – Triplochiton Scleroxylon

At the forefront of our selection of timber species is the illustrious Wawa (Triplochiton Scleroxylon). This remarkable wood comprises a substantial 90% of the timber we employ for crafting exquisite mouldings. Our commitment to excellence leads us to source Wawa wood primarily from the tropical West African nations of Ghana and Cameroon, where its natural splendor thrives.

Wawa wood is characterized by its captivating light wheat hue, imparting a warm and inviting aesthetic to our creations. However, it’s worth noting that Wawa wood tends to bear the traces of its natural environment, often exhibiting charming fungal or ‘blue stain’ marks. These marks, while adding to its unique character, also underscore the authenticity of Wawa, as it’s an infrequent occurrence for it to be entirely devoid of such fungal stains.

LAFRIQUE Studios places paramount importance on ethical sourcing and sustainability. To this end, our discerning approach extends to our selection of import partners, who align with the esteemed standards of the Forest Stewardship Council™ (FSC™). Ensuring the integrity of our materials, each panel of raw Wawa wood undergoes meticulous heat treatment in accordance with ISPM 15 Standards before it finds its place in our studio atelier.

Our pride in crafting mouldings from Wawa wood is evident in our commitment to offering them in their unadulterated, natural form – NATURAL WAWA. This emphasizes the wood’s innate beauty and allows it to shine in its purest essence.

Additional Wood Materials Featured in our Studio:

KIAAT (Pterocarpus Angolensis)

Distinguished by its captivating palette, Kiaat emerges as a timber of undeniable allure. Exhibiting a range of shades from deep browns to pastel tones, Kiaat’s surfaces are graced with blonde streaks that add a touch of elegance. The wood’s color spectrum spans from rich dark browns to vibrant oranges, its inherent blonde streaks serving as a hallmark feature. A characteristic of Kiaat that deserves distinction is the occasional presence of small pinholes, reminiscent of its history, yet distinctive from insect-caused perforations.

ASH (Fraxinus American)

Elegance and resilience converge in the form of Ash (Fraxinus American). This timber, bedecked in a light wheat color, is adorned with a profoundly distinctive grain pattern. Its classification as an American Hardwood underscores its robust nature, a trait confirmed by its substantial weight and hardness. Sourcing our Ash from the United States of America and Canada ensures the finest quality for our creations.

OAK (Various Species)

Among the treasures gracing our studio, Oak emerges as a versatile favorite. Its light brown and yellow tones exude a sense of warmth, while the pronounced grain pattern adds visual intrigue. The variations within different Oak species allow us to tailor our creations to a diverse range of aesthetic preferences.

HARD MAPLE (Acer Saccharum)

Radiating an aura of refinement, Hard Maple (Acer Saccharum) is a testament to the artistry of nature. The timber’s light wheat color is accompanied by an exquisitely fine texture that beckons to be touched. A hallmark of American Hardwood, Hard Maple is celebrated for its remarkable durability and weightiness. Sourced directly from the United States of America and Canada, Hard Maple holds an esteemed place in our collection.

Our dedication to exquisite craftsmanship and the selection of premium timber materials is evident in each creation that emerges from LAFRIQUE Studios.
